Maintenance Worker – City of Delavan, Wisconsin
Position: Full-time (40 hours/week) Maintenance Worker position that may be assigned to any of the City’s three maintenance divisions (Streets, Utilities & Parks) and will be required to possess the qualifications necessary to work in any of the 3 areas. Initial assignment to the Street Division is anticipated. Work in the other divisions as dictated by the workflow and priority of the projects will be required.
Duties: Operates light and heavy duty (5 yard) dump trucks and other construction vehicles and equipment; plows snow, loads and spreads de-icing salt and performs other snow and ice control duties; performs general street maintenance such as patching, crack filling and paving for concrete and asphalt pavements, performs maintenance and repair of catch basins, ditches, culverts and other storm water drainage systems, maintains traffic signals, street lights and signs, performs tasks involving the installation, repair, maintenance and operation of sewer and water infrastructure; performs tasks relating to the reading, testing and installation of water meters, performs general building and park maintenance including basic HVAC, electrical, plumbing, custodial cleaning, landscaping, mowing, planting, pruning, weeding, etc. may perform preventive maintenance on trucks and other equipment. This position receives and carries out job assignments involving the performance of manual labor often involving physically demanding work.
Qualifications: Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent. Possession of a valid Wisconsin CDL class B with an N endorsement or ability to obtain within 120 days of hire. Must also have the ability to obtain, if directed by the City, the following additional certificates/licenses: Groundwater and Distribution Certificate and Herbicide Applicators License. Experience operating construction related equipment is preferred. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions is required. Selected candidate will be required to perform manual labor including lifting, carrying and moving up to 50 lbs. frequently, regardless of the weather conditions. May be required to be part of a weekly on-call rotation and perform scheduled work on weekends and holidays. Required to respond to after-hours emergencies which include, but not limited to, water main breaks, service leaks, water and sewer system alarms, sanitary sewer collection system backups, or snow plowing. Qualified applicants will be required to satisfactorily pass a series of tests which may include, but are not limited to aptitude testing, driving skill testing and drug testing.
Starting Wage: $18.26 to $21.00 per hour depending on qualifications. Great benefits including insurance, pension and paid leave.
