Water and Sewer:
Upcoming Utility Projects

UPCOMING 2009 WATER AND SEWER PROJECTS:

February 2009, the Utility began the construction of Well #7 on City owned property located on the east side of Lake Comus, north of Elmhurst Avenue. The well will be approximately 400 feet deep with a well capacity of 1000 gallons per minute.

January 2009, the Common Council approved the construction of a North Water Treatment Facility that will treat water from Well #7. The water plant, designed to initially have a capacity ranging from 500 gallons per minute (gpm) to 1000 gpm, is being sized to allow for expansion to 2000 gpm if the need arises. The treatment process for the well water will include aeration and filtration to remove iron and manganese from the water, followed by fluoridation and disinfection. With the construction of the well and treatment plant, the City will improve reliability of water service in the community during the high water demand periods of the summer and reduce our reliance on the deep sandstone aquifer. The Utility is funding the cost of the water treatment plant with a low interest loan from the Department of Natural Resources Safe Drinking Water fund.

In the summer of 2009, the Utility will be completing the Ann Street Project, Sixth to Eighth, which will consist of the replacement of a 4 & 6” water main with an 8”water main, 13 water services and 2 hydrants.
