D.O.T. Construction Closure UPDATE – May 8, 2017
The Wisconsin D.O.T. has provided some project updates for the Highway 50 contract, as of the end of the first week in May. They noted that the wet weather has slowed their progress during the last week and a half.
The Geneva Street & Wright/Borg Street Intersection construction will have a stage change which will include finishing the paving of the temporary lanes with asphalt and then moving traffic onto them. The schedule right now for moving to the new traffic lanes is to happen on Tuesday, May 9th. The timing of traffic lights at the intersection will remain the relatively the same. Once that move has been made, the contractor will begin to construct the new east bound lanes on the south side of the roadway and the new west half of Wright Street and Borg Road. Geneva Street will have a single lane of traffic for each direction, through this area on the north half of the roadway, from Alder Ave to the cross over on the east end of the project by the Shopko shopping center driveway where traffic will be returned to their original lanes. Wright Street and Borg Road will have traffic moved to the east half of the roadway. This stage is scheduled to go until mid-July.
Water main replacement (Wisconsin Street to Park Ave) will be continuing. They will be working on Geneva St. from 7th Street and moving east. During the day the work area of the water main will be closed unless other accommodations need to be made for access to a business when no other is available. The schedule for replacement of the water services is later during this stage of the water main replacement. Properties will be individually notified at the time of planned water service interruptions. During the evenings and weekends, when it can be safely allowed, they will have a single lane open in each direction for access to those local businesses.
The D.O.T. does provide for affected businesses that want to provide alternate directional signs for their business, those signs are then attached to the State’s barricades. All of these signs must have a permit form submitted and approved by the D.O.T. before installation. If there are questions about this sign program, please call the D.O.T. at (262) 548-6763.
