Employment Opportunity : Building & Zoning Administrator


Position: Full-time exempt Building & Zoning Administrator positon.  This position oversees the Building and Zoning division within the Public Works Department.  Responsibilities include coordinating the building permit process, landlord licensing program, property maintenance program, and conducting the related inspections.  The position is also responsible for interpreting the zoning ordinance and processing all zoning related applications. This position regularly works a minimum of 40 hours/week with attendance required at several monthly evening meetings.

Duties: Coordinates all phases of the building permit process for the City of Delavan and, through an intergovernmental agreement, for the Village of Darien.  Coordinates the City’s landlord licensing and property maintenance programs and conducts related inspections.  Responds to and investigates complaints; issues warning, notices of corrective action and/or citations as appropriate.  Coordinates development review meetings; processes zoning permit applications and researches and recommends amendments to development related codes and documents.

Qualifications: Associates/Technical degree and considerable experience in building inspection, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  State certifications in Uniform Dwelling Code (UDC) One and Two Family, UDC HVAC and Uniform Commercial or ability to obtain within 6 months.  Commercial Electrical Inspector and Commercial Plumbing Inspector certification by the State of WI Department of Commerce Safety and Buildings Division a plus.    Ability to read blueprints, plats, and site plans and to interpret development related codes and documents.  Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

Salary Range: $53,901 to $70,072.  Starting Salary Range: $53,901 to $63,000 depending on qualifications. Great benefits including insurance, pension and paid leave.
